Ontario Reader is a collection of news, stories, and information designed to help adult English as a second language (ESL) and literacy learners improve
their English skills and learn about life in Ontario and Canada.
Ontario Reader contains a variety of stories adapted from newspapers and other sources. Topics include Canadian culture, history, government, people, places, and events.
The stories are written at three levels of difficulty, ranges from high beginner to intermediate (primarily CLB levels 2 – 5).
Interesting photos establish the context of the stories and facilitate conversation and pre-reading activities. The stories are accompanied by practice exercises that focus
on reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary development.
Ontario Reader is a flexible learning resource designed for classroom or individual study. It includes an answer key and teacher’s guide.
Ontario Reader 2012, the most current edition, will be available as of May 1, 2012.
The 2010 edition is also available. A new edition is published once every two years.
